Donโt forget to register to vote!
If you want to have a say in who runs the country, who represents you in Parliament and on the local council, then you must be registered to vote.
This guide explains what's involved during voter registration, what you need, and how the Salford Liberal Democrats can help you with your application.
Everyone living in the United Kingdom over the age of 17 who is a British, Irish, Commonwealth or EU citizen can register to vote.
There are two ways you can register. You can either register online or by post. You can also return paper forms to Salford City Council's Electoral Services Team by post or in person.
All you need is your National Insurance number. You won't need to provide any photo ID or proof of address during the application process.
Anyone who's eligible to vote in the UK can vote by post. You don't have to give a reason why. With a postal vote, the ballot papers will be sent to your home about 2 weeks before election day. You must return them to the Council before election day โ or take them to your local polling station on election day.
Please let us know if you'd like any support when registering to vote. We're happy to answer any questions, provide postal forms and return them to the Electoral Services Team on your behalf.
You can also visit the Electoral Commission's website for guides on voter registration available in other languages and accessible communication formats.
My Vote My Voice provides accessible educational resources for disabled people about how to register to vote and the wider electoral process. You can find these on their website.
