Brian Westley
Originally from New York, I came to the UK to study at the University of Manchester, where I met my partner of over 25 years. For the past 21 years, I have proudly called Blackfriars home, witnessing first-hand the vast changes as the city centre has expanded into Salford. I believe our area deserves to be Cleaner, Safer, and More Sustainable. Too often, new developments rise around us while vital reinvestment in our community is neglected. Residents have seen a real decline in road quality, litter collection, and street cleaning — alongside an increase in antisocial behaviour and addiction issues. As the Blackfriars Trinity Community Leader, I am working hard to bring people together and fight for real improvements in our neighbourhood. Some of the initiatives that I have led include:
· Founding the Blackfriars Trinity & Greengate Community Groups to engage residents in local events, parks, and neighbourhood improvements
· Organising CCTV installation to tackle antisocial behaviour hotspots in Blackfriars Park
· Leading the Clean Up Blackfriars Trinity Greengate monthly litterpicking group
· Successfully campaigning for the maintenance and power washing of the Lowry Hotel Bridge (Trinity Bridge) and continuing to campaign for upkeep of the Greengate Bridge and the Blackfriars Road pedestrian crossing.
Since July 2025, I have also been proud to serve as a resident representative on the Highways and Budget Committee for East Salford, ensuring that our community’s
voice is heard where it matters. I am passionate about building a neighbourhood where everyone feels safe, proud of their surroundings, and confident that our area is getting the investment it deserves.
