Local lad and community campaigner Paul Heilbron took over from outgoing
Councillor Alex Warren who started the Manchester ship canal’s famous
#CleanUpTheQuays Campaign. Paul Heilbron has now won in Salford Quays
and will be the next Liberal Democrat Councillor to win in Greater Manchester.
The Liberal Democrats in the Salford have been campaigning on accessible and
local community issues that people care about. Namely, the successful
#LateNightTrams campaign spearheaded by former Councillor Alex Warren and
the fantastic local momentum of the anti-plastic pollution #CleanUpTheQuays
campaign, which Paul Heilbron has just kicked into a whole new gear this year.
Whilst the Liberal Democrats ran a positive campaign focused on the issues,
many voters noted how Labour only bothered showing up long after the by-
election was called, with the candidate being selected at the last minute. Paul
and the Lib Dems keep in touch all year round, whereas the first thing voters
heard from Labour was a demand for their vote a matter of weeks before polling
day.

Newly elected Liberal Democrat Councillor Paul Heilbron said:
“I’m thrilled to have won this monumental by-election in Salford Quays. It’s a
vindication of months and years of hard work I’ve put into the area, building
on the work of Alex and the Lib Dem team, the team I am proud to be part of,
who have achieved a lot already in such a short space of time. There is of

course lots more to be done. I promise to work hard for everyone who lives in
Salford Quays and Media City whoever they voted for
“Tonight is about our neighbours, and the issues that matter to them. We have
a plan for Salford, and we will bring in so many more exciting ideas like Late
night trams and Clean up the Quays.”
“Residents in Quays have put their trust in someone who keeps in touch all
year round, and thoroughly rejected Labour’s arrogant demand for votes
when they only bother showing up at election time.”
